There comes a point in every dying relationship where you have to make a choice: Your girl/boyfriend or you. Just like if you were in the woods or on a mountaintop or in the jungle and only one of you could come out of it alive – it simply becomes a matter of survival. In this case, emotional survival. Hell, in most of my cases, physical survival as well.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m in a relationship, I’m in a relationship. That means that when I’m fighting with the guy I’m dating, I have no appetite, my sleeping suffers, and I’m miserable until we make up. Believe me, it’s not something I make a conscious effort to do, it just happens.
If it comes to the point where we’re fighting all the time, then, you can imagine how my well-being suffers. It’s at that point that I have to use Samantha’s famous Sex & the City line to Richard: “I love you, but I love me more.”
There’s only so much one person could take. A relationship is supposed to be fulfilling and make you happy and enrich your life. The person you’re seeing should make you smile, not frown (another Samantha-ism). If you’re frowning 90% of the time, I’m sorry but do you honestly believe it’s still worth trying to salvage?
So true, but as a sex and the city fan—you should know that she said this to Smith, not Richard. tisk tisk
Anon: Nope, she said it to Richard. I am 100% positive. That’s even Richard’s head in the picture! Tisk tisk back! lol.
No, no, it was Smith. It does look a little like the back of Richard’s head though. She said this in California (while breaking up with Smith) before moving back to NYC.
